In a radio interview with CNA938, he said while NPS are chemically different from traditional drugs, they still inflict the same harm on abusers and their loved ones. Between 2014 and 2017, 11 people in Singapore were caught abusing NPS. That number jumped to an average of 235 abusers per year over the next four-year period.

The Singapore Institute of Architects has drawn up a new Value Articulation Framework to boost the industry and address issues such as brain drain and low wages. It includes a tool to calculate timelines, as well as the cost of services. This was announced at the 18th Singapore Archifest. It is hoped that this framework will help eradicate "fee-diving", where firms quote well below market rates for tenders. The institute said firms today are doing almost double the work compared to 20 years ago, but they are now pricing their fees three to four times less.

China and Russia have touted their relationship as one of “no-limits” since February 2022, as they seek to counter the global influence of the United States. But clearly, there are limits, evident in Beijing’s refusal to openly support Moscow in the Ukraine war, says Alexey Muraviev, an associate professor of national security and strategic studies at Curtin University. He explains on CNA’s Asia Now why a limitless friendship does not mean unconditional alliances. The White House announced on Tuesday (May 14) that it is hiking tariffs on US$18 billion worth of imports from China, targeting strategic sectors like electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, steel and critical minerals. These hikes are politically motivated, with about six months to go for the US presidential election, says Dr Derek Scissors, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He tells CNA's Asia First that while there could be some retaliation by China, further tit-for-tat restrictions are unlikely.
